Quote: | Matthew 20:1-28 | 1For the kingdom of heaven is like unto an householder which went out early in the morning to hire laborers into his vineyard. 2And he agreed with the laborers for a penny a day, and sent them in to his vineyard. 3And he went out about the third hour, and saw other standing idle in the market place, 4and said unto them: go ye also into my vineyard, and whatsoever is right, I will give you: and they went their way. 5Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour, and did likewise. 6And he went out about the eleventh hour and found other standing idle, and said unto them: Why stand ye here all the day idle? 7They said unto him: Because no man hath hired us. He said to them: go ye also into my vineyard, and whatsoever shall be right, that shall ye receive. 8When even was come, the lord of the vineyard, said unto his steward: call the laborers, and give them their hire, beginning at the last, till thou come to the first. 9And they which were hired about the eleventh hour, came and received every man a penny. 10Then came the first, supposing that they should receive more, and they like wise received every man a penny. 11And when they had received it, they grudged against the good man of the house, saying: 12These last have wrought but one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us which have borne the burden and heat of the day. 13He answered to one of them, saying: Friend I do thee no wrong: didst thou not agree with me for a penny? 14Take that which is thy duty, and go thy way. I will give unto this last, as much as to thee. 15Is it not lawful for me to do as me listeth, with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good? 16So the last shall be first, and the first shall be last. For many are called, and few be chosen. 17And Jesus ascended to Jerusalem, and took the twelve disciples apart in the way, and said to them: 18Lo we go up to Jerusalem, and the son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, 19and shall deliver him to the gentiles, to be mocked, to be scourged, and to be crucified: and the third day he shall rise again. 20Then came to him the mother of Zebedee's children with her sons, worshipping him, and desiring a certain thing of him. 21 He said unto her: What wilt thou have? She said unto him: Grant that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand in thy kingdom. 22Jesus answered, and said: Ye wot not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of? And to be baptised with the baptism, that I shall be baptised with? They answered to him: That we are. 23 He said unto them: Ye shall drink of my cup, and shall be baptised with the baptism that I shall be baptised with all. But to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give you: but to them for whom it is prepared of my father. 24And when the ten heard this, they disdained at the two brethren. 25But Jesus called them unto him, and said: Ye know, that the lords of the gentiles have domination over them. And they that are great, exercise power over them. 26It shall not be so among you: But whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister, 27and whosoever will be chief, let him be your servant. 28Even as the son of man came, not to be ministered unto, but to minister: and to give his life for the redemption of many. |
Luke 9:46-56 | 46Then there arose a disputation among them, who should be the greatest. 47When Jesus perceived the thoughts of their hearts, he took a child, and set him hard by him, 48and said unto them: Whosoever receiveth this child in my name, receiveth me. And whosoever receiveth me, receiveth him that sent me. For he that amongst you, is the least, the same shall be great. 49 John answered and said: Master we saw one casting out devils in thy name, and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us. 50And Jesus said unto him: forbid ye him not. For he that is not against you, is with you. 51And it followed when the time was come that he should be received up and that he determined himself to go to Jerusalem: 52and sent messengers before him. And they went, and entered into a city of the Samaritans to make ready for him. 53And they would not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. 54When his disciples, James, and John, saw that, they said: Lord, wilt thou that we command, that fire come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Helias did? 55Jesus turned about, and rebuked them saying: ye wot not what manner spirit ye are of. 56The son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another town. |
Luke 22:24-27 | 24And there was a strife among them, which of them should seem greatest. 25And he said unto them: The kings of the gentiles reign over them; And they that bear rule over them, are called gracious lords. 26But ye shall not be so. But he that is greatest among you, shall be as the youngest: And he that is chief, shall be as the minister. 27For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat: or he that serveth? Is not he that sitteth at meat? And I am among you, as he that ministereth. |
Matthew 23:10-11 | 10Be not called masters, for one is your master, and he is Christ. 11He that is greatest among you, shall be your servant. |
