Both Masoretic and the ancient Hebrew Isaiah Scroll found at the Dead Sea use the Hebrew word (almah) meaning young woman or maidden of marriageable age. The Hebrew language has a different word (betulot) to describe a female virgin but it is not specifically used in that passage, though of course (according to divine law) the not yet married "almah" is understood to also be a virgin as the moral norm. It's ironic that when Mary's husband Joseph heard that she was pregnant, obviously could not accept it till it was revealed to him what really had happened.
